A Low Total Can Hide A Different Job.

Quotes rarely use the same words for the same job. A low total can look attractive while the prep, the waste removal or the finish sit outside the price.

A low quote above the waterline, with exclusions, allowances and add-ons hidden below it

The total doesn't tell you what's included

One tradesman includes waste removal. Another leaves it off. The lower number can end up the more expensive job once work starts.

Every quote uses different wording

Materials, prep, disposal and payment stages get described differently from one tradesman to the next. You end up comparing figures that don't cover the same work.

You don't know what to ask

A missing line could mean it's included, forgotten, or left for you to sort out later. The checklist tells you which, and what to ask about it.

What's inside

Four Parts. One Straight Read.

Written from thirty years on site, not a script.

A fixed price you can rely on, next to an allowance that can still move between £8,000 and £16,000
01

The ten-point checklist

Ten things every quote should have, whatever the job. Scope, materials, VAT, payment stages, guarantees. Miss more than two or three and that's your first red flag.

02

Trade-by-trade red flags

What to look for in joinery, tiling, flooring and decorating specifically. The part a generalist review can't give you, because each trade hides its shortcuts in a different place.

03

The comparison worksheet

A page to lay two or three quotes side by side: total price, what's included, materials, payment schedule, red flags spotted. The gaps between them tell you more than any single quote does on its own.

04

Seven questions to ask before you sign

Ask these out loud, in person or on the phone. How someone answers tells you as much as what they say.

The comparison worksheet

See The Gaps In Black And White.

Lay two or three quotes side by side and the differences jump out. You'll walk away knowing exactly what's still open on each one.

Questions before you buy

Before You Buy.

I've already got a quote. Is this still useful?+

Yes. The comparison worksheet works with quotes you already have, and the checklist tells you what to check for in the one you're holding right now.

Does it cover my trade specifically?+

Joinery, tiling, flooring and decorating each get their own section. The ten-point checklist applies whatever work you're having done.

What if I want someone to actually look at my quote?+

There's a quote review call included inside the guide. Send your quote over beforehand and go through it with Craig on a video call.

How do I get the guide after I pay?+

It's a PDF, delivered straight after checkout, so you can start reading before your next quote lands.
